
Biography
Christina Plaka is part of the first generation of German mangaka. In 2002, at the age of 19, she participated in the drawing competition “Manga Talente” at the Leipzig Book Fair, where she took second place, paving her way to Carlsen Verlag. From 2003 on, her Manga Prussian Blue was published in the Carlsen magazine Daisuki and soon after also as a paperback. In the same year, she passed her A-levels and began studying Japanese studies and Romance languages. Starting in 2005, she continued the story of the student band from Prussian Blue under the new title Yonen Buzz at TOKYOPOP, thereby also tapping into the French and American markets. In 2009, she returned to Carlsen and published there Herrscher aller Welten, the biographically influenced one-shot Kimi he – Worte an dich, and the sports manga Go for it ! From 2010 to 2012, she spent two years at Kyoto Seika University, where she also earned her master’s degree.
In 2016, she founded the first traditional Manga School in the German-speaking world with I am Mangaka ! and focused on training young artists since then. Today she primarily offers online courses through I am Mangaka !
